They now have 1o MP cameras.  Do we really need 10 MP??

I’ve got pictures that I took that people thought were done by a professional with a mack daddy camera.  They were taken with my 4 MP camera.  I honestly can’t tell the difference once you hit 4+ MP.  Maybe my eye just isn’t trained well enough to tell the difference.

So the PS3 may now get a nice little price cut. Good for consumers, bad for Sony. They were already losing a ton of money on the PS3 and now they’ll lose even more.

Losing money, plus production delays (now Europe won’t see the PS3 until March) and fierce competition from the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. Sony just seems to have completely bungled the launch of the PS and it will likely cost them market share.

Looks like HP may have been acquiring trade secrets on the sly from Dell.

My only question is this: why would you steal Dell’s trade secrets??  If you’ve ever used a Dell, I’m willing to bet that you’ve had problems with them.  They are dirt cheap because they use cheap components in their machines.  Why would HP be worried about Dell making shoddy printers to match their shoddy computers??  HP has a virtual stranglehold on the pinter market and Dell’s sub-par machines wouldn’t make a dent in their market share.

But then again, HP did waste tons of money merging with Compaq.  Who knows what they thinking.

Remember my post a few weeks ago about the porn industry deciding the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray battle??

Well, turns out the biggest issue the porn industry has with the HD formats is razor burn. HD makes physical imperfections more apparent on the videos.

Two great quotes from the article:

“The biggest problem is razor burn. Im not 100 percent sure why anyone would want to see their porn in HD.” — Stormy Daniels, on the the issues with HD

“We kept stopping and trying to hide it. We put on makeup and powder, but there was no way. We just changed positions.” — Savanna Samson, on how she dealt with a tiny, ill-placed pimple

Here’s some random news stuff for today:

First, Netflix is going to start offering downloadable movies to their customers. That’s right, you’ll be able to download and watch movies on your computer. Good stuff. Especially for me, since I’ll be able to watch movies online while I’m waiting for my other DVD’s to arrive. Now if only I could figure out a way to burn them once I’ve downloaded them…

Second, Sony has announced that PS3 shipments have reached the 1 million mark. Good for you Sony. Just to bad you couldn’t produce them any faster around Christmas, when people would have sold their homes and children to get one.

Apple has announced that they will be charging a fee to certain Mac owners to be able to use wireless technologies on their computers. So, after you’ve paid $2500 for your Mac, you now have to pay to be able to use the wireless technology. Sweet. And lets not forget that Mac’s are much more expensive to to fix when something goes wrong. Remind me again why they don’t seem to gain much market share against PC’s in the computer world??

As with the great Beta Max vs. VHS debate of the 80’s, it looks as if the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray debate will come down to which format the porn industry decides to use. In the 80’s, the porn industry chose to do everything in VHS format and Beta Max quickly became obsolete. If the porn industry chooses HD DVD, look for Blu-Ray to go the way of Beta Max.

When ever I pose this theory to people, I get the same reaction: no way will the porn industry dictate what all the other movie companies will use. And I say they will. Think about how many movies a year the porn industry puts out (no pun intended). It’s a ton. If they pick the HD DVD format, then the makers of HD DVD can achieve economies of scale. The more HD DVD’s they make, the cheaper it becomes to make them. Then HD DVD has a competitive edge on Blu-Ray in price.  Suddenly, that copy of Good Will Hunting that was $25 is now $13.

And all thanks to the porn industry wanting to crank out Good Will Humping on HD DVD instead of Blu-Ray.

This guy is widely considered the best gamer in the world.  He wins tons of tournaments and basically gets paid to play video games.  He’s got his own line of mice and keyboards that he specifically designed for gamers.  He’s even worked with some game companies to help make online games better.

Why the hell didn’t my guidance counselor tell me about this career option in high school??????

This is a follow up from yesterdays post on Apple’s iPhoneTurns out Apple is being sued by Cisco over naming rights.  Turns out, Cisco trademarked the name iPhone in 2000.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

I just don’t get it. I don’t understand what the big deal is with Apple’s new phone.

It’s a phone that doubles as an iPod, can send text messages and emails, takes pictures and videos, and can connect to the internet. Great. Again, what’s the point??

I know very few people that use their phone for all that stuff. The small screen makes internet surfing difficult, since most sites aren’t designed to be viewed on mobile phone screens (and seriously, how often are not near a computer with an internet connection?). Sending emails is not practical, as most keypads are phone style keypads and not keyboards. Most camera phones take crappy pictures and video. And these days, everyone and their mother already have an iPod.

So why would anyone in their right mind want to pay between $500 and $600 (plus a service contract) for an Apple branded phone that will do the exact same thing??
