Dario Franchitti won a rain shortened Indy 500 today. He’s also married to Ashley Judd. Life won’t get too much better for Dario. I think Rod Stewart put it best when he sang “Some guys have all the luck…Some guys get all the breaks.”

Lucky bastard.

Others aren’t as lucky. Like Danica Patrick, who has still yet to win an IRL event.

First of all, great name. Fatemeh Angela Harkness. It doesn’t even sound real .

So Fatemeh is going to prison for conspiring to embezzle more than a million dollars from a bank in order to start a NASCAR racing team. Sounds pretty cool, huh?? Even better, Harkness is an ex-stripper.

You have to give her some respect for being an entrepreneurial spirit and wanting to start her own business. Even if it did land her in jail.

I wonder if strippers are treated differently in prison??

Well, for the second straight season, Bama has been bounced from the SEC tournament.  It seems like Bama always has lots of talent, but never seems to be able to win championships.

I love Jim Wells and I think that he’s a great coach and he’s built the Bama program into a very good one.  But maybe it’s time for Wells to go and bring in a coach who can take us to the next level.  We seem to have plateaued with Wells.  Maybe its time for someone new.

The same can be said for the Bama basketball team and Mark Gottfried.  But that’s another post in itself.

So Jessie Palmer has retired from the CFL to pursue a job in broadcasting in the US.  Such an odd career for one of the most heralded Florida QB’s recruited by Steve Spurrier.

He goes from Gator Golden Boy, to rotating each play with Doug Johnson, to back-up NFL QB, to The Bachelor, to back-up QB in the CFL.

Just a bizarre career path for  a guy who was supposed to lead the Gators to their first title since Danny Wurfuel.

I finally got my new driver today.  Its a Callaway X460.  I’m not going to lie.  It’s bad ass.
I busted my previous driver while playing in a tournament a few weeks ago.  I managed to rack up $125 in PGA Superstore gift cards and got a sweet deal on my new driver.

I really shouldn’t be this excited about a golf club.

I managed to destroy my driver in a tournament this past week. Now I need a new one. The one I really like is the Callaway X 460CC. However, it’s right outside my price range. I need to figure out how I can convince the wife that I need to get this.

UCLA knocked out Kansas this evening.  While it doesn’t hurt me too bad (I had Kansas losing to Florida in the next round), it does make the Florida game MUCH more interesting for me, since I have them as my champion and the guys I’m in a pool with have UCLA as thier champion.  Basically, if Florida wins, I pretty much lock up the pool.

I can’t handle that kind of stress.

Last week, I blogged on the beauty of March Madness.

Tonight was the epitome of March Madness. Texas A&M (who I had in my championship game) was playing Memphis. Normally, I wouldn’t care about this game. But, if A&M lost, I would be seriously hurt in my pool. So in the last 2 minutes of the game, I was completely filled with nervous energy, excited when A&M scored and crying out in horror when they failed to rebound. Then, with one free throw, I went from nervous excitment to complete depression and anger.

All for a sport and a game I normally don’t care about.

I think that if college football could get its act together and put on a tournament, then I’d care more about the bowl games that my team was not in. AS of now, I really don’t give a crap who plays in the Insight.com bowl or the Emerald bowl.

You have to love  March Madness.  It makes you do crazy things.

For example…

I love football.  I watch every NCAA and NFL game I possibly can.  I read every article I can get my hands on.  I keep up with trade rumors, free-agent signings and recruiting.  However, I very rarely bet on football.

Then along comes March Madness.  I have watched maybe 3 games all season (all of them Alabama games) and I am filling out brackets and entering as many office pools as I can at $5 a pop.

Only March Madness can make me bet on a sport I don’t watch, when I don’t even bet on the sport I follow religiously.

Go figure.

I can remember a few years ago, there were rumors that Charles Barley was going to run for governor of Alabama.  When a reporter asked him about it, he responded, “Why would I want to be governor?  He only makes $60,000 a year.  That’s like one hand of blackjack.”

Guess that the $60k really isn’t that much for Barkley.
