Apple iPhone - What’s the big deal??
I just don’t get it. I don’t understand what the big deal is with Apple’s new phone.
It’s a phone that doubles as an iPod, can send text messages and emails, takes pictures and videos, and can connect to the internet. Great. Again, what’s the point??
I know very few people that use their phone for all that stuff. The small screen makes internet surfing difficult, since most sites aren’t designed to be viewed on mobile phone screens (and seriously, how often are not near a computer with an internet connection?). Sending emails is not practical, as most keypads are phone style keypads and not keyboards. Most camera phones take crappy pictures and video. And these days, everyone and their mother already have an iPod.
So why would anyone in their right mind want to pay between $500 and $600 (plus a service contract) for an Apple branded phone that will do the exact same thing??

Me. That’s who.
It will be my birthday/Christmas present to myself next year. Make fun if you like, but it’ll be sweet.
With technology like this, when you’re buying something cool, why not buy it? You’re just looking for bragging rights — and let’s be honest, we all are, all the time. We only end up with “lesser” phones because we don’t want to (or can’t) spend the extra. Otherwise, NO ONE needs a camera, an mp3 player, or internet connectivity on their phone. They might want one of those things, but no one needs them.
And if you tell me that’s not the case, I will ask why we all don’t have the free $20 phone that is plenty small enough and does nothing but connect telephone calls. Because we want to brag about how cool our phones are.

I will say that I have a phone that does camera, video, MP3’s, email and internet. However, I got that phone and my wifes phone for free. So I have all this crap I don’t use. I don’t subscribe to Vcast, so I can’t do email and internet. I always forget I have a video/still camera, so I rarely use it. And I have an iPod, so I don’t use the MP3 feature. All I use it for is calls and text messaging. If I had to pay for my phone, then yes, I probably would have gotten the $20 phone.
